Ultrasound
In addition, obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound services are also provided using a GE Voluson colour Doppler scanner based in the Outpatient Department.
Special purpose probes (removed small parts and intercavity) are used to perform detailed examinations of the head and neck, thyroid gland, testes, abdomen, prostate gland, breast and female pelvic organs.
Ultrasound is also used to examine the tendons, muscles and soft tissues of the major joints and as a guide for steroid injections into joints and surrounding soft tissues as an effective treatment for joint pain.
This equipment is additionally used to provide guidance for biopsy, aspiration and drainage procedures.
Consultant Radiologists or Specialist Sonographers carry out all examinations and results are usually dispatched on the day of examination.
